Our proposals are for a mixed-use development through a combination of refurbished and new buildings. Where possible, ground floor spaces on Mill Lane and spaces near the river will provide retail and leisure uses, generally envisaged as food and drink. Upper floors typically provide student accommodation or other complementary University/College uses.
The public realm will be improved to prioritize pedestrians' and cyclists' movements and to create a safer, more welcoming, environment. This will include the provision of a shared surface along Mill Lane to complement the new retail spaces and create a lively public route through the centre of the site.
The development of Old Press/Mill Lane will provide a cohesive sense of place encompassing high quality public space, increased accessibility, centrally-located student accommodation and vibrant restaurant, café and retail facilities.
